Looking Ahead to this Week
*Monday, February 4, 2019: Working with Spheros in the Learning Commons
*Wednesday, February 6, 2019: Lunch Lady
*Thursday, February 7, 2019: Library
*Friday, February 8, 2019: Swim to Survive
Word Wall Words this week are: sometimes, something, one, won, winner.
In Math, students are working on strategies for addition and subtraction. They will solve problems involving the addition and subtraction of two-digit numbers, using a variety of mental strategies.
Sample Solution: To add 37 + 48, I add the tens, add the ones, and combine them like this:
30 + 40 = 70, 7 + 8 = 15, 70 + 15 = 85.
Students will also use estimation when solving problems, to help judge the reasonableness of a solution.
Sample Estimation: To estimate 370 + 48, I can think about 370 + 50.
In Language, students will be writing proper paragraphs that include
*A topic sentence (introduces the topic)
*Supporting details (4 - 6 sentences)
*A concluding sentence (include a personal thought)
