In Math, students are working on recognizing when each operation (addition or subtraction) is appropriate to use.
Sample Questions: There are 583 students in Amy's school in the morning. 99 of the third -grade students leave for a field trip. How many students are left in school?  or There are 61 third-grade students in Amy's school. 19 of them are in the library. How many are left in their classrooms?
In Language, students will be continuing to investigating biographies and writing a non-fiction report that includes:
*A topic sentence (introduces the topic)
*Supporting details (4 - 6 sentences about important events in their life)
*A concluding sentence (include a personal thought)

In Math, students are working on adding and subtracting using algorithms. Students will add and subtract three digit numbers, using concrete materials, student-generated algorithms, and standard algorithms.
Sample Question: The highest waterfall in the world is in Venezuela. It is called Angel Falls, and it is 979 m high. Create and solve several problems by comparing the height of Angel Falls to the heights of other tall landforms.
Sample Response: Niagara falls is 51 m high so Angel Falls is 928 m higher.
In Language, students are finishing their Ozobot biographies and will begin writing a non-fiction brochure that includes:
*Text Features such as Headings and Subheadings and a variety of fonts
*Visual Literacy such as photographs, maps, charts
*Providing opinions and supporting opinions

In Math, students are working on strategies for addition and subtraction. They will solve problems involving the addition and subtraction of two-digit numbers, using a variety of mental strategies.
Sample Solution: To add 37 + 48,  I add the tens, add the ones, and combine them like this: 
30 + 40 = 70, 7 + 8 = 15, 70 + 15 = 85. 
Students will also use estimation when solving problems, to help judge the reasonableness of a solution.
Sample Estimation: To estimate 370 + 48, I can think about 370 + 50.
In Language, students will be writing proper paragraphs that include

Word Wall Words this week are: really, probably, then, what, another.
In Math, students are finishing work on 3-d geometry. They are comparing and sorting prisms and pyramids by their geometric properties (i.e., number and shape of faces, number of edges, number of vertices). Students are encouraged to identify prisms and pyramids in their environment. Next unit will be addition and subtraction.
In Language, students have been writing friendly letters to students in Grade 2 about an animal of their choice. They are to use all 5 parts of a friendly letter: Heading, Greeting, Body, closing, and Signature.
